Reddit is testing the NFT avatar feature on its platform, the news comes a week or so after Twitter implemented a similar feature.
The popular social media platform, which has around 430 million monthly users in 2021, is reportedly currently working on an NFT avatar feature where users can set their avatar to any non-fungible token with an image attached.
In an interview with Techcrunch on January 27, Reddit spokesman Tim Rathschmidt said:
“We are always exploring ways to provide value to Reddit users and the community. Currently, we are testing the ability to use NFTs as avatars and verify ownership.”
“This is a small internal test and no decision has been made to expand or roll out this feature,” he added.
Earlier this week, an app developer posted a Reddit ad promoting the feature, implying that testing has come a long way.

Twitter also rolled out NFT avatars last week for paid users of Twitter Blue on iOS. Recently, however, NFTs have faced backlash from gamers and Web2 developers. A day after its launch, a github contributor shared a browser extension that automatically blocks Twitter accounts that use NFT avatars.
Reddit has been experimenting with various initiatives around NFTs for some time now. It even has a dedicated page for NFT-related activities on nft.reddit.com.
In May 2020, the company launched MOON and BRICK, the Ethereum standard-based cryptocurrencies for its /r/cryptocurrency and /r/Fortnite communities.
Since the birth of NFTs, avatar NFTs seem to have attracted much attention and popularity.
